About Richmond International Airport

Owned and operated by the Capital Region Airport Commission since 1975, Richmond International Airport has evolved into one of the most modern and well-equipped airports in the eastern United States. Located seven miles southeast of Richmond's central business district, within an hour drive of historic Williamsburg and a two hour drive from Washington, D.C., the Blue Ridge Mountains, and Virginia Beach, Richmond International Airport is the main hub to tourist attractions across Virginia.

Eight air carriers currently serve RIC offering nonstop flights to major domestic destinations and connecting service to points around the globe. More than 3.5 million travelers utilize RIC annually and that number continues to grow. In addition, RIC handles approximately 115 million pounds of cargo annually, utilizing its more than 100,000 square feet of warehouse/office space and 1,000,000 square feet of ramp space.

As a benefit to its customers, the airport provides monthly statistics on passenger and cargo volume.

The current "open V" runway configuration at RIC allows for significant additional capacity. The airport handles about 135,000 operations (a landing or a take-off) annually. Present annual service volume capacity is 225,000 operations. Three asphalt-grooved runways accommodate all aircraft at RIC. The longest runway is 9,003 feet in length by 150 feet in width.
