RIC Releases Annual Report 2023: A Year of Extraordinary Heights

Jun 27, 2024

Richmond International Airport (RIC) has released its Annual Report 2023, the first publication of its kind released by the airport. The report celebrates the immense accomplishments of Fiscal Year 2023 (FY23), which saw record-breaking passenger traffic and cargo volume. Annual Report 2023 highlights the stories of resilience and growth behind these historic numbers, as well as the commitment to provide an exceptional travel experience to our passengers.

RIC navigated through the adversity of the COVID-19 pandemic and emerged stronger than ever. For FY23, the airport reported 4.43 million passengers, an annual record. Activities attributable to RIC are responsible for nearly 16,000 jobs and an annual economic impact of $2.1 billion in Central Virginia.

When FY23 concluded, RIC had amassed 35 year-round seasonal routes, the most in its history. Nonstop service to Hartford, Jacksonville, Providence, and Islip, NY were all added to the airport’s portfolio last year, in addition to nonstop service to western destinations such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, Phoenix, and Las Vegas.

The airport won numerous awards for its top-notch service, environmental stewardship, and effect on the local economy. These awards include Air Transport Research Society’s #1 Most Efficient Airport in North America, Richmond Region Tourism’s 2023 Tourism Impact Award, and the Virginia Green Travel Leader Award.

The annual report also shares three major projects that are currently in development: a fully renovated Federal Inspection Services facility with the ability to support international travel, a new Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting station, and consolidated security checkpoints. These projects will dramatically expand the airport’s offerings, as well as increase the safety and efficiency of RIC’s operations.
