RICHMOND, Va., January 29, 2026 – For the third year in a row, Richmond International Airport (RIC) set new annual records for passenger traffic and cargo volume. The airport served over 4.9 million passengers and handled about 223 million pounds of cargo in 2025.
“The growth in our numbers demonstrates the Richmond region’s desire for convenient, customer-forward air travel options, and we’re pleased they are choosing Richmond International Airport,” said Perry J. Miller, Ph.D., A.A.E., I.A.P., president and CEO of the Capital Region Airport Commission. “Whether we’re helping people get safely to their destination or handling their packages with care, our team at RIC is focused on customer experience and operational excellence with the goal of being the region’s preferred gateway to the world.”
Last year, 4,922,994 total passengers (+0.8%) and 223 million pounds of cargo (+0.1%) passed through the airport, surpassing 2024 annual records. Aircraft operations increased by 5.8% to108,527 movements.
In December, monthly passenger volumes decreased 0.6% to 418,762. The decrease is attributable to the holiday travel period for Thanksgiving occurring entirely in November.
The month’s market leader was American Airlines with a 28.1% share of passengers followed closely by Delta Air Lines with 25.2% of passenger volume. JetBlue and Breeze both reported year-over-year growth at 19.5% and 19.3%, respectively.
