November Passenger Traffic Increases 7.3% at RIC

Richmond International Airport (RIC) reports passenger traffic for November increased 7.3 percent versus the same period last year (290,973 in 2015 vs. 271,189 in 2014).  November’s passenger report represents the 21st consecutive month of passenger traffic growth at RIC and the airport’s second-best November ever.

For the month, passenger enplanements were up 7.7 percent, while deplanements increased 6.9 percent. Through November, RIC’s passenger traffic in 2015 has increased 5.0 percent (3,231,800 vs. 3,079,037 in 2014). For the fiscal year to date, passenger traffic is up 5.2 percent.

“Airport activity is a reflection of economic activity in the community and we’ve seen numerous positive indicators for Central Virginia,” said Jon E. Mathiasen AAE, RIC president & CEO. “And with air carriers continuing to offer competitive fares to many of our most-demanded destinations, we expect this upward trend in passenger traffic to continue into next year.”

Delta Air Lines was the market share leader in November with 35.1 percent, followed by American (31.6 percent) and United (13.8 percent).  Four air carriers reported year over year passenger growth, including Delta (+11.4%), American (Combined AA/US) (+5.1%), United (+4.9%), and JetBlue (+4.7%).

Cargo and Operations: Total cargo, measured as the sum of freight and mail, decreased 1.5 percent from last November. Overall aircraft operations decreased 5.9 percent from last year.

Service Notes: JetBlue Airways is now offering for sale a second daily roundtrip between Richmond and Orlando (RIC-MCO). The additional flight will start May 4, 2016. And Allegiant Air is now marketing twice-weekly (Thursday/Sunday) Richmond-Orlando Sanford (RIC-SFB) flights which start April 14, 2016.
