RIC Reports November Aviation Activity

For the month of November 2021, Richmond International Airport (RIC) reports a passenger count of 344,481, a 155.1 percent increase over the total for November 2020 and a 92.3 percent recovery of passenger traffic from pre-pandemic November 2019.

 

Delta Air Lines was the month’s market leader with a 30.9 percent share, closely followed by American (30.4%).

For the first five months of fiscal year 2022 (FY22), passenger traffic has increased 165.6 percent compared to the same period a year ago. Thus far in 2021, RIC has welcomed 1.3 million more passengers than the first eleven months of 2020, an increase of 82.8 percent.

 

Cargo

Total cargo increased 0.5 percent to 13.63 million pounds, making November the first FY22 month to report a gain.

 

Operations

For the month, aircraft operations increased 51.5 percent versus November a year ago. To date in FY22, operations have reported a growth of 41.3 percent.

Financials

November operating revenues totaled $4.5 million, greater than budget by $942 thousand or 26.4%. Fiscal year-to-date operating revenues totaled $22.2 million, greater than budget by $4.6 million or 26.0%.

 

November’s operating expenses totaled $1.9 million, less than budget by ($536) thousand or (22.0%). Fiscal year-to-date operating expenses totaled $9.2 million, less than budget by ($1.8) million or (16.4%).

 

Briefs

  • Breeze Airways recently announced Saturday-only service to Palm Beach, FL (PBI), starting February 19, 2022. The carrier currently offers service from Richmond to Charleston, New Orleans, and Tampa.
  • November’s passenger count represents an approximate 92.3 percent recovery of the pre-pandemic total of 373,149 reported for November 2019, RIC’s record November.
  • November 2021 is the 21st month adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
